Configuring a Renamed Email in Apple Mail (macOS)
Because macOS does not permit editing the primary email address of an existing IMAP account, you must remove the old account and add the new one.

- Tools required: Mailbox password and access to the macOS device.
Critical Warning: POP3 Accounts If your existing Rackspace email account is set up using the POP3 protocol, you must migrate your mail data to an IMAP account or back it up manually before deleting the account. Deleting a POP3 account will permanently delete all local email data.

Step 1: Delete the Old Account
Important: If the old account was set up using POP3, you must migrate your data to an IMAP account first, or all local mail will be lost upon deletion.
- Open System Settings/Preferences:
- On macOS Ventura (13) or newer: Click the Apple menu () and select System Settings.
- On macOS Monterey (12) or older: Click the Apple menu () and select System Preferences.
- Navigate to Internet Accounts:
- Find and select Internet Accounts.
- Remove the Account:
- Select the email account associated with the old email address.
- Click the Delete Account or - (minus) button.
- Confirm that you want to remove the account from your Mac.
Step 2: Add the New (Renamed) Account
- Return to Internet Accounts:
- In System Settings/Preferences, click Add Account.
- Choose "Other Mail Account":
- In the window that appears, select Mail Account and click Continue.
- Enter Basic Information:
- Enter the following information and click Sign In:
- Name: Your first and last name.
- Email Address: Your renamed Rackspace Email address.
- Password: Your mailbox password.
- Enter the following information and click Sign In:
- Enter Manual Server Settings:
- A warning will appear that the client cannot verify the account. You must manually enter the correct Rackspace settings:
- Email Address: Your renamed Rackspace Email address.
- User Name: Your renamed Rackspace Email address.
- Password: Your mailbox password.
- Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming Mail Server: secure.emailsrvr.com
- Outgoing Mail Server: secure.emailsrvr.com
- A warning will appear that the client cannot verify the account. You must manually enter the correct Rackspace settings:
- Finalize Account Setup:
- Click Sign In (or Next).
- Select the services you wish to synchronize (usually only Mail) and click Done.
